Pictures January 27th and 28th
Gabby's snow suit that is newborn size almost fits her. Ha, right. The little pink dress is actually a premie outfit. Crazy that it fits her still.
The cute cream and pink outfit is from Angela..Gabby was so cute yesterday that Jason had to come home from work early as I kept sending him pictures of her. How fun.
4 Weeks 5 days old
Gabby went to the doctor this morning for her one month check up. Everything was great. She weighed in at 7lbs 1.4 ounces and is now 20 1/2 inches long. At birth she was 5lbs 15.2 ounces and 18.5 inches long. She is growing right on track. She received her second hepatitis shot today and next month will get four shots. That should be fun. Today she had a delayed response to the shot. The nurse gave it to her and then about five seconds later her face turned bright red and there went the water works. Poor thing.
She has started to get gas the past week which is making her fussy. There were two days where she just wanted to be held. The doctor of course said this is all normal for this stage of her life. She has a blocked tear duct in her right eye. The doctor told us to just use warm water on a cotton ball and rub it four times a day in the corner of her eye and nose to break it up. Her sleeping is still hit or miss. She will be good for three or four days and then have a night where she wants to stay up. She has been smiling a little more and will track you if you move something in front of her slowly. We are still doing tummy time daily and she is getting better each time. She actually seems to enjoy tummy time. She is still feeding every three hours during the day and about every four hours at night. The doctor said it is okay to stretch out her feedings between four and five hours at night if she sleeps that long. Five hours would be like heaven.
Grandma Ann leaves us tomorrow. We are sad but so thankful that she has been able to spend this past month plus with us and Gabby. She has been such a huge help. Gabby and her will always have such a special bond. Grandma Sue and Grandpa Larry check in most nights and talk to Gabby via the web cam. Gabby is so lucky to have such great Grandparents and she doesn't even know yet.
I went to the doctor yesterday and was cleared to start driving and carrying Gabby. Whoo hoo. She also said I can walk but she doesn't want me lifting weights for another month. That is going to be challenging for me. But better to be safe.

Dad and Gabby's first feeding!
Jason fed Gabby today for the first time. The breast pump is working in full force. He did great and so did she. She is clearly a Winckler as she ate almost 5 ounces. Way to go Gabby. Guess this is the reason she is growing so well. It sure made her more tired as she was passed out right afterwards. This is here doing tummy time as well and then hanging out in her swing. What a full day!

Gabby and Mason's First awake play Date
This and that
Gabby had her first bath this past weekend. She seemed to really enjoy most of it. She is gonna hate us for the videos we too later but we were just so excited. Jason took three videos but the other two were to big to fit on the blog. Go figure. We started doing some tummy time with her this weekend as well. Sure seems to be hard to get that head to switch sides but she is doing it and not even fussing about it. She was already flipping her head back and forth and lifting it up when I would burp her. She is so strong. Jason is convinced that her eyes are becoming a richer blue. We are hopeful they will stay blue but you just never know. Gabby is like her Uncle John and sleeps with her eyes part way open. Kind of freaky to be honest. She is great the past four nights with sleeping. We rock her to sleep after the ten or eleven pm feeding then she is down for about four hours. Then after her feedings in the middle of the night she goes right back to sleep. I am so welcoming the much needed sleep she is allowing us at the moment! She is still growing like a weed. She is actually almost fitting into a newborn outfit. Whoo hoo! Progress.

Gabby Three Weeks Old
Gabby is doing so great. She is getting so big. Despite what everyone says when they come to visit her. We can tell that she is getting longer and is really starting to fill out in her legs and face. She is finally starting to have a little bit of chub on her legs. So cute!
We are trying to get sleep when we can but it isn't always easy. Gabby likes to be up at night. She is getting better with her sleeping as the days go by. I have been feeding her every three hours during the day and try to move it out to four hours at night so we can sleep a little. This is working out pretty well most nights.
Breastfeeding is going very well. Gabby still chokes at least once a day on the milk. Talked to the doctor and the lactation specialist who both say this is normal and nothing to be worried about as she is still trying to figure out breathing, eating and sucking. I tell you when it is happening I don't know how it isn't a big deal. It is so scary. She seems to self correct it right away and doesn't seem to be phased by it very much. My friend, Angela, let me borrow her breast pump and well, I tried pumping last week and I couldn't get the pump to work besides on manual and it was way to cumbersome. So, another client is letting me borrow her pump. I am hoping it will work out well enough so that Jason can help out with feedings. I know he really wants to be able to bond with Gabby this way. And the more he wants to bond in the middle of the night the better for me! Ha.
Gabby is starting to turn her head a lot more and she will track your hand if you move slowly. She definitely knows my voice. Strange, huh.... She also is trying to pick her head up a lot. We were forced to put the mittens on her hands as she seems to be OCD already trying to find her thumb. What she doesn't realize is that once her thumb is in her mouth all she has to do is close her mouth and she would be happy. Baby steps I guess. We can't cut her nails until next week as they are still attached to her skin. This is another reason we put the mittens on. She keeps scratching her little face up. She started sticking her tongue out I believe on day nine. Which is so cute. She is also starting to smile. Now, they say it is just gas and that is why she smiles but we will take that smile anyway we can get it.
She still sleeps a lot but when she is awake she is typically very alert. We have been putting her in the swing, bouncy seat and popazon chair. She seems to like them all. We also have been letting her lie under a little play area. She seems to really look at the bright colored toys hanging from above. We also put a mirror for her to look into and she is fascinated by herself. I can't blame her! She is just too cute. We are not sure who she looks like just yet. From one minute to the next she looks like someone different. I still see a lot of my mom and her brothers in her and sometimes my brothers. Jason still sees his dad and his grandfather in her. So who knows.
She still really only cries or fusses when we change her diaper or her clothes. Which seems to be a lot as she is always going to the bathroom. Geez! When Grandma Sue was here we took Gabby out for her first stroller ride. Which was funny since she is so little the stroller swallowed her up whole. We took her out again today and she just loved it. My mom and I try to get out with her once a day. Sure makes us all feel normal. With it being cold and flu season the doctor doesn't want her out until at least a month if not longer. So typically one of us stays in the car with her.
Gabby has had lots of visitors. Crazy how you never know until you are older how many people are so excited for your arrival. Gabby is so loved and she doesn't even know it yet.
Jason is doing great. He has been really tired. He is back to work as of last week and it is proving to be wearing on him. I try to keep him motivated by sending him pictures throughout the day. I myself and feeling pretty good. My incision is healing up very nicely. I do still feel tender in my abdomen right below my belly button. I think I might have been allergic to the tape they used. I actually went for my first walk for exercise today. I am still slow moving but it felt so great to do something as I have not exercised I believe in ten to twelve weeks. Yikes. Grandma Ann is here for two more weeks. She has been such a blessing to have with us. So helpful with Gabby, cooking, laundry, support, etc. We are trying to get her to stay. Sorry Dennis!
I think this will keep you all pretty current with what is going on here. Thanks so much for all your emails and calls. Sorry if I haven't gotten back to you. Seems like the day is over before it starts. I am not sure where the time goes. I promise to be better with the updates and will keep the pictures coming.
Much love to you all!

Gabby 1 Week
Gabby has not allowed us to sleep much since we have been home. She was up all Monday night being fussy. She was up for the second night in a row with an upset tummy. So we thought. She is just very regular in the number two department. She fed really well all day on Tuesday and was a happy camper all day. She, grandma Ann and I took a trip to Target. They stayed in the car while I broke free for a minute. We got some preemie diapers. Which fit so much better. The newborn diapers seem to be so big on her still. Jason took a nice four hour nap Tuesday. He was suppose to work Wednesday and was too tired to go in as we didn't get much sleep that night either. Gabby seems to be awake from midnight to four.
We took Gabby to the doctor Wednesday. She in true fashion pooped when they tried to weigh her and then again ten minutes later when the doctor came in. He told us that is normal for her to be very active in that department. We were happy to find out she has gained six ounces back since Sunday. Guess those every two hour feedings are doing the trick. The doctor said since she has gained so well I can switch back to feeding every three hours. Thankfully. The every two hours were killing me as once you are done I only had about 45 minutes to an hour before she would start feeding again, which made sleeping impossible. I feel so refreshed today having an extra hour. I think I was wrapping Gabby up to tight and keeping her to flat on her back and this could be why she didn't sleep so well the other nights. She likes to have her head turned to the side and with my wrapping technique this wasn't really working for her. Jason put her to sleep twice on Wednesday and made sure her head was turned and she is out like a light. Way to go Jason for figuring this out. We have all been really tired.
The doctor also suggested feeding, keeping her awake if we can for a little bit then putting her down for her nap in her bassinet. Trying to keep this routine until night time and then just feeding and putting her back to sleep. This way we can start a pattern for her to recognize. He was really pleased with all her progress. Everything checked out just great. We are going to have an ultrasound of her hip and are just waiting to hear back from them as to when. He is very proactive which we like. We actually had a different pediatrician but have seen this doctor twice in the hospital and then Wednesday and we feel so comfortable with him so we are going to switch to him. They are all in the same practice so it works out just fine.
We got to show Gabby off a little bit yesterday. After her doctors appointment we stopped by to visit the chiropractor who was dying to meet her as well as the owner of the gym by our house. He told us he will babysit anytime cause he would like to use Gabby as a way to help him pick up the ladies. Too funny. It was fun to be able to show her off!
My friend Angela came over Wednesday and brought us a breast pump. That should be fun to start using. Oh my, I can't wait to feel like a cow being milked. Pat do you have any milking advice for me? Ha. (They own a dairy farm) Gabby has been very alert yesterday and today eyes open and legs kicking and arms a swinging.
Today Gabby is a week old. It is amazing how different she looks and how much she is filling out. Jason went to work today hoping he didn't look so much like the new dad. Yet, since Gabby was up again last night he looked like the new tired dad for sure. Grandma Ann and I had a low key day with Gabby. We gave her her first little sponge bath today. Surprisingly she enjoyed it. She cries more when we change her diaper. She slept well and ate well all day. She likes sleeping on her side we have discovered. She looks so peaceful when she sleeps. So not fare to the rest of us. She is still pooping up a storm. Guess it is better then the alternative. My friend Sara came to visit us today. Grandma Ann kept ture to form and was cooking up a storm all day. It is so wonderful having home cooked delicious meals! Grandma Sue is arrived tonight to meet Gabby. She will be here till Monday. She is bursting at the seems to meet her first grand baby!
Here are her latest and greatest photos.

Gabby Day 4
We arrived home Sunday around 4pm. It was so nice to finally get home but now reality has set in. Jason even drove the speed limit if not slower on the way home with his hands at ten and two on the steering wheel. We had some precious cargo you know.
I am realizing now that we are home the hospital was the easy part. I feel myself being the nervous mom staring at Gabby wondering if she is breathing. I am not sure how I am ever going to sleep again. Jason is the calm one so far. I am allowing myself to be nervous today as it is all so new. When we were at the hospital we let the nursery keep her at night and just bring her to us to feed. Now, I just need to get used to her little noises and moves to know what is normal for her.
My breast milk is fully in. It came in Saturday night/Sunday morning. She is still feeding really well. The pediatrician had me move the feedings up to every two hours instead of three as Gabby is still loosing weight. She is now down to 5 pounds 6 ounces. Which is nine point five percent of her body weight. They start to worry if she looses ten percent of her body weight. She has not complained for one moment about eating more often. She is still eating up a storm. The doctor also said he wanted to keep an eye on her right hip still. He thought they may try to schedule an ultrasound by at least month four and then go from there. I am glad that they are proactive if it is anything we need to worry about.
With my milk being in now it managed to give Gabby and upset tummy Sunday night. She was fussy for the first time with three poops in an hour. The nursery nurse said this is normal as she is adjusting to the milk from the colostrum. Grandma and Jason have been doing their fair share of diaper changing and rocking to keep the peace. I am doing my fare share of pacing and starring at her. Ha. Gabby had the hiccups all the time when she was in my belly. Starting yesterday we noticed her having them. The nursery nurse told us that feeding would help take them away. And it really did. She has has them about three times since we have been home. She sounds like a squeak toy. It is kind of funny. We have been introducing the pacifier to help her stay calm when we change her diaper or when she has the hiccups. Her legs go crazy when we change the diaper making it really hard for dad to get the diaper to fasten and or stay on. Jason has officially been peed on as of this morning.
Attached are her most recent photos. She is changing so much it is amazing.
All our love,
Julie, Jason, Gabby and Grandma
